Deal and Aylesham Loop

Exploring the Kent countryside, this ride starts in the coastal town of Deal before moving inland to take in some of the best scenery in the Garden of England. The payback for the great scenery on this ride is hills. Apart from a small amount of flat at the start and end of the ride, there is barely a flat section. You will either be going uphill or downhill from start to finish. Refreshment stops in the middle of the route are also limited, so taking some supplies wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Route Description

After leaving the start at Deal railway station, the ride follows Queen Street eastwards until it reaches the coast. From here the route turns south and follows the Coastal Path for a couple of miles until it hits the outskirts of Kingsdown. After Kingsdown the route turns inland and climbs through Ringwould before dropping down in to the village of Sutton and on to East Studdal

Leaving East Studdal the route continues its undulating profile with continuous ups and downs, and care is required when crossing the busy A256. After the A256 the route now skirts around the edges of Tilmanstone, Eythorne and Elvington along some very quiet country lanes before turning North at Frogham.

From Frogham it’s a straight road to the edge of Aylesham where the route turns slightly eastward over the highest point of the ride. Passing Goodnestone Park the route now generally travels downhill as it passes the Chillenden Windmill. After passing through Rowling, the quiet lanes continue right into Eastry.

Eastry marks the start of the run into the finish at Deal. However, it’s not all plain sailing as there is still the steep climb out of Finglesham to contend with. After the climb, it’s on to the final leg as the route passes through Mongeham before hitting outskirts of Deal and a gentle run in to the finish.
